Facilitated by TJ Badru.
Jira isn’t the only game in town. If your team uses Azure DevOps, this session is for you.
Welcome to Azure Boards Queries:
Azure Boards is Microsoft’s work tracking tool inside Azure DevOps — and it’s widely used in enterprise environments, especially in organizations running .NET, Microsoft 365, or hybrid cloud infrastructure. This hands-on session teaches you how to use Azure Boards Queries to get exactly the information you need, when you need it.
What We’ll Cover:
• Azure Boards overview: work items, boards, backlogs, and sprints
• The difference between Flat List, Tree, and Direct Links query types
• Building queries using the query editor (no code required)
• The most useful queries every Agile practitioner should know:
– All active items assigned to me
– Bugs by severity in the current sprint
– Stories without acceptance criteria
– Work items changed in the last 7 days
– Items blocked or flagged for review
• Saving and sharing queries with your team
• Building charts and widgets from query results
• Adding query-based widgets to your Azure DevOps dashboard
• Comparing Azure Boards queries to Jira JQL — similarities and differences
Live Hands-On Practice:
Every student will build and run real queries in Azure DevOps during the session. Free Azure DevOps accounts are available at dev.azure.com — sign up before class.
Who Should Attend:
• Teams using Azure DevOps in Microsoft-heavy environments
• Practitioners who want to expand beyond Jira
• Anyone working in enterprise, government, or regulated industries where ADO is standard
Benefits of Attending This Session:
Participants will leave with a working knowledge of Azure Boards Queries, a personal query library to reuse, and the ability to build dashboards that give their team real visibility into their work.
