Facilitated by TJ Badru.
Smooth delivery rarely happens by accident. High-performing Agile teams intentionally manage the flow of work to reduce delays, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve predictability.
This workshop introduces participants to Lean Flow principles and practical techniques for identifying workflow bottlenecks. Through interactive activities and case studies, attendees will explore how Work in Progress (WIP), aging work, dependencies, and handoffs impact delivery.
The session emphasizes practical coaching techniques that help teams improve flow without increasing pressure or encouraging micromanagement.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
Understand the importance of flow in Agile delivery.
Identify common causes of bottlenecks.
Learn techniques for improving workflow.
Apply Lean principles to everyday Agile delivery challenges.
Who Should Attend?
This session is ideal for:
Scrum Masters
Agile Coaches
Product Owners
Delivery Managers
Project and Program Managers
Team Leads
Business Analysts
Anyone responsible for improving team delivery, reducing bottlenecks, and optimizing workflow
Key Takeaways
By the end of this session, participants will:
Understand why flow is one of the most important indicators of Agile team performance.
Learn how to identify bottlenecks, excessive work in progress (WIP), and aging work before they impact delivery.
Recognize how dependencies, handoffs, and context switching slow down delivery.
Apply Lean principles to improve workflow and increase predictability.
Explore practical strategies for limiting WIP and maintaining a steady flow of value.
Gain facilitation techniques to help teams identify and resolve workflow challenges during retrospectives and daily stand-ups.
Leave with actionable ideas for improving delivery without increasing workload or creating unnecessary pressure on the team.
Interactive Activity
The Flow Simulation Challenge
Participants will work in small teams to analyze the workflow of a fictional Agile team experiencing delivery delays. Using a visual Kanban board and a set of work items, each group will identify bottlenecks, excessive Work in Progress (WIP), aging work, dependencies, and other factors affecting flow.
Teams will then collaborate to redesign the workflow by applying Lean and Agile principles to improve efficiency, reduce delays, and increase predictability. Each group will present their recommendations and explain how their proposed changes would improve the team’s ability to deliver value consistently.
The session will conclude with a facilitated discussion comparing the different approaches and highlighting best practices that participants can immediately apply within their own teams.
